We are delighted that North Lincolnshire Community Energy (NLCE) have surpassed their £700,000 goal to build more solar panels in Scunthorpe and the surrounding area. This has come with substantial investment from local residents, plus contributions from the council and another renewable energy society. Solar PV installations have already commenced on a local hospice and children's home, and they can now proceed with the rest of the pipeline projects.
The share offer has now closed, although North Lincolnshire Community Energy are still accepting applicants from the local area.
Host Buildings
NLCE want to hear from local organisations who are interested in becoming host buildings: installation of the solar panels is free, and the organisation benefits from cheaper energy costs. So far they have helped organisations including schools, community centres, and the local football stadium (the Attis Arena) which is owned and run by a local Community Interest Company (CIC). If you live or work in North Lincolnshire then please head to their website to read more.
Council Partnerships
This energy society has grown rapidly in the last two years, and Energy4All are excited to see what the future holds for them. North Lincolnshire Community Energy has benefitted from strong support from North Lincolnshire Town Council, and Energy4All would like to hear from other councils with aspirations for community owned renewable energy. Community energy is a great way to lower your town or district's carbon emissions whilst giving residents agency in what decisions are being made and keeping profits within your community.
Future Share Offers
If you are interested in community energy and missed out on this share offer, there will be plenty more on the way in 2025. We are close to a launch with Reading Community Energy Society and Edinburgh Community Solar Co-operative. Register your interest with Energy4All to hear by email when the next share offer launches.
