Kate Meakin
Kate is a Director of Energise South, a community energy co-operative and member of Energy4All. Energise South funds and installs community-owned solar on buildings across the South East, with a growing portfolio of 11 sites to date, including 5 schools. The organisation is currently progressing a 5MW biodiversity-focused solar farm in Crowhurst from successful planning consent through to installation. Energise South works symbiotically with its sister co-operative, Energise Sussex Coast.
Kate has been Executive Director of Energise Sussex Coast for nine years, where she leads the organisation’s energy and retrofit advice service supporting households experiencing fuel poverty. She oversees community engagement programmes and organisational operations, with a strong focus on ensuring the energy transition delivers tangible benefits for those most at risk of being left behind. Kate won Community Energy England’s Community Energy Champion Award in 2024.
Her earlier career includes roles with NGOs such as Oxfam and Fair Trade Wales, where she worked on campaigns focused on social justice and climate action.
