Community Benefit From Spirit of Lanarkshire

Spirit of Lanarkshire

The Spirit of Lanarkshire Wind Energy Co-operative was pleased to make a community benefit payment to the Outlet Play Resource Summer Play Scheme.  Members had expressed a desire at a couple of AGMs that some of the money derived from the project should go directly towards supporting activity in the community.  The Outlet scheme presented the ideal opportunity to realise this ambition for the membership.  The board agreed to contribute £5000 to the scheme which supports summer play schemes in the Clydesdale area of South Lanarkshire.

As a result of the payment, the scheme was able to provide play opportunities to children in Coalburn, Lesmahagow, Kirkmuirhill and Blackwood.  All of these villages are very close to the Nutberry site, one of two sites included in the Spirit of Lanarkshire partnership with Falck Renewables.  In one of the most beautiful summers in living memory, the children living near the windfarm were able to participate in supervised play on a daily basis across the area.

Jackie Meager, who led the scheme, made a presentation to the Spirit of Lanarkshire AGM showing members the value of the scheme they had supported.

L-R Gordon Jorgenson (Chair SOL), Jackie Meager (The Outlet Play Resource Director), Susan McNeish (Senior Ranger) and James McCrae (SOL Director).
