It was brilliant to see North Lincolnshire Community Energy (NLCE), part of the Energy4All network of cooperatives, take home an award at this years’ Community Energy Awards in Manchester.
NLCE has worked closely with North Lincolnshire Council, who utilised a £1.4 million Towns Fund Grant to support the initiative and helped secure the host sites including schools and community buildings. Together they won the Supportive Local Authority Award.
With the first projects launched in January 2023, sunny weather in Scunthorpe resulted in an excellent first quarter’s generation for NLCE. Generation from the first six school solar arrays commissioned by NLCE was 200,906kWh, more than 30% ahead of budget. This resulted in increased savings on electricity bills for the schools and an increased surplus for NLCE to invest in more solar panels in North Lincolnshire.
NLCE will be continuing to grow in the coming years: if you are interested in future Share Offers you can find out more and register your interest on their website.
The Community Energy Awards are run by Community Energy England and bring together individuals, organisations, and initiatives that are making significant contributions to the advancement of sustainable and locally-driven energy solutions. Energy4All won the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Community Energy’ Award in 2018 and several of the coops it supports have won their own.
